The original Nimb, the Moorish-inspired fairytale castle, was completed in 1909. The building was designed by the then director of Tivoli Gardens, Knud Arne-Petersen, who was an accomplished architect. Over the years, Nimb has undergone several redevelopments, the most notable of which are the most recent:
In 2007, the interiors and exteriors of the Nimb building underwent a total refurbishment. The façade was restored using Italian marble stucco to create a more restrained, exclusive look. Heading the successful restoration was Italian architect Matteo Thun, who is also the artist behind the magnificent arabesque-inspired pattern that adorns the façade facing Copenhagen Central Station. Thun was part of the renowned postmodern design collective The Memphis Group and his unique sense of aesthetics has earned him numerous design and architecture awards over the years.
In November 2017, a new wing, called Tivoli Corner, was added to the Nimb building. The hotel expanded from 17 to 38 luxurious rooms and suites, all appointed with the highest quality throughout. New York-based architects Pei Cobb Freed & Partners, led by lead designer Ian Bader, designed this ultramodern extension, which has expanded Nimb Hotel by 2,000 square metres, including a rooftop terrace with pool and a luxurious subterranean wellness area.
Pei Cobb Freed & Partners has mastered an impressive portfolio of iconic buildings around the world. One of their most famous projects is the contemporisation of the Louvre in Paris with the iconic glass pyramid.

The unique Nimb feeling is omnipresent and the eclectic style that makes Nimb truly unique suffuses all 38 rooms and suites. Here, accomplished classic Danish design blends with beautiful antiques from the Far East as well as handpicked art by renowned Danish and international artists.
MATERIALS
The Moorish-inspired Nimb building dates from 1909. When the edifice underwent major refurbishment in 2007 only the finest materials were selected for its rejuvenated incarnation. The façade is clad with Italian marble, and the flooring throughout is wide-planked Dinesen Douglas. Another recurrent interior feature is Öland granite.
BATHROOMS
Nimb Hotel rooms are fitted with magnificent bathtubs and sinks by Italian bathroom design brand Agape. The fixtures and showers are from TONI’s Christiansborg range, which was originally designed for the third iteration of Copenhagen’s Christiansborg Palace in 1884.
INTERIOR DESIGN
Nimb Hotel rooms are also equipped with TVs and speakers from Bang & Olufsen, Bestlite lamps, PH lamps as well as handpicked and bespoke fabrics from JAB Anstoetz. Blending in with carefully selected antiques from the Far East are hand-upholstered furnishings from Denmark, England and Belgium. The wall colours are customised for Nimb Hotel.
GENUINE ANTIQUES
Many of the furnishings at Nimb Hotel are genuine antiques that have been restored with loving respect. The furnishings originate from China (1700 to 1900), the Spanish colonial era in the Philippines (1700 to the mid-1800s) and Denmark, representing the Empire style in addition to the late Empire style (1790 to the mid-1800s).

THE QUALITY OF SLEEP
The quality of sleep is an integral part of the hotel experience and with our bespoke canopy beds and handwoven Egyptian cotton linen from Geismars, you are guaranteed a sumptuous repose. A special edition of Geismars linen is available from Nimb in which the characteristic Moorish pattern of the Nimb façade is discreetly woven into the fabric.
CATHRINE RABEN DAVIDSEN
Cathrine Raben Davidsen is synonymous with art at Nimb – from her impressive murals in Nimb Bar to her poetic lithographs that adorn several of the suites.
Davidsen was trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from where she graduated in 2003. A unifying source of inspiration in her early oeuvre are classical myths and tales, which in Nimb Bar are represented by the Greek myth of the sisters Philomela and Procne recounted in Raben Davidsen’s artwork from 2008.
RICHARDT BRANDERUP
Richardt Branderup was head designer of Tivoli Gardens from 1968-2002. He designed many iconic Tivoli Gardens posters and created the designs for amusement rides, such as The Flying Suitcase where all 146 figures are from his hand. Original drawings and figures by Richardt Branderup can be admired in several of the hotel rooms and suites.
JOHN LORING
Former director of design at Tiffany & Co. from 1979 to 2009, John Loring is also a contributor to Nimb’s art collection. Loring’s artworks can be enjoyed at such renowned institutions as MoMA and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York – and at Nimb Hotel, where his splendid abstract lithographs from the 1960s decorate several rooms.
HARRY BENSON
In 2007, renowned Scottish photographer Harry Benson published a magnificent coffee-table book with images from Tivoli Gardens. Four visits yielded 200 beautiful photographs in which the Gardens, its visitors and performing artists are captured with Benson’s defining sense of aesthetic storytelling. Several hotel rooms feature original photography from Harry Benson’s book.
Guests at Nimb Hotel enjoy a unique opportunity to bring home that special Nimb feeling. The hotel has now launched Nimb Bed Linen, a series of bedding and nightwear from Geismars, and Beds at Nimb with handcrafted four-poster canopy beds, piano-lacquered black night table lamps and Geismars' duvets and pillows.
